Richard's Butte rises across a calm Ford's Pond
What drought looks like
And now the trail angles upward
Vetch, doing the vetch thing
Scarlet (even though it's orange) pimpernel
Ookow was commonly found in the knee-high grasses
Pale flax lives up to its name
A lone tree and Richard's Butte in a perpetual staredown
White hyacinth found a happy home in the grassy terrain
The trail went uphill under the power lines
Yes the slopes were covered in green grass
Knapweed likewise kept bees busy
Knapweed in bloom
The footpath hugged the park's northern boundary
Almost at the high point of the hike
The trail entered the oak glade atop Rosa Ridge
Plantain flowers, such as they are
Last time I was here, the oak branches were threadbare
Freshly mowed trail atop the ridge
Lichen hung from the trees like so much tinsel
A small bee approaches an Oregon checkermallow
Remnants of drowned trees indicate this pond was nearly dry once
Red-winged blackbirds chirped greetings at me as I hiked by
The place was absolutely crawling with wooly bears
A brisk breeze ruffled up the pond's erstwhile still surface
